Customer Question

Dr Steve: Can I have these answers by Friday night or Saturday morning sometime: Only need 4-5 sentence answers for each question. This is for Anatomy & Physiology II (BIO 212).

1. How would the process of red blood cell production be affected by constricting the arteries that supply blood to the kidney? Explain your answer. What compensation mechanism(s) would take place to maintain a normal RBC count. Name two other situations that would affect the process of red blood cell production in a similar manner as part 1 of the question.

2. A 55-year-old male was admitted to the hospital with heart failure. He complains of increasing shortness of breath on exertion and needing to sleep on three pillows at night. On physical assessment, the nurse determines that his ankles and feet are very swollen. What is left-sided and right-sided heart failure? Which of these symptoms reflect left-sided heart failure and which reflect right-sided heart failure? Why?

3. Beth Wood tells her nursing students that it is important to monitor patients’ blood pressure when they are receiving verapamil (a calcium channel blocker). What is the function calcium in cardiac action potentials? What is the function of calcium in muscle contraction? State 3 other reasons why BP needs to be monitored when giving this drug.

4. If a wound overwhelms the clotting mechanism and leads to serious hemorrhage and drop in blood pressure, what compensations does the body have to defend cardiac output?

5. For each of the following situations, describe the anticipated effect on blood pressure and the physiological basis of the response: (1) a high-salt diet, (2) a blow on the head that damages (disables) the vasomotor center, (3) an attack by a mugger, and (4) a hypothalamic tumor resulting in excess ADH production.

6. A patient lost a lot of blood during surgery and his blood pressure dropped from 120/80 to 90/50. Describe how the kidneys respond to this change in blood pressure.
