The statue of Limitation sets forth the maximum time after an event that legal proceeding based on that event may be initated. Explain whether you agree or disagree with the existance of this limitation on obtaining relief and why you feel that way.
Hi. Thanks for your question.

I do believe in a reasonable statute of limitations. The longer the time between an event and the legal proceedings, the less likely it is that justice will be served. Evidence may disappear, witnesses will be hard to find, and memories can even be faulty. In addition, the accused party seems entitled to reasonably swift justice if they are accused of a fault. Being charged or sued for something that happened many years ago seems an unnecessary disruption in one's life. People change and move on. The kind of crimes for which the statute of limitations should morally not apply are generally those for which it does not.

In addition, suits brought a long time after the event are possibly more likely to be nuisance suits. They will always raise the question of why it took so long for the victim to bring legal action.
