Customer Question

Just bought a 2008 New beetle with a convertale top. When i push the button to release to to go down, it only goes so far down. After releasing the brake a tone starts and the convertable light blinks. It seems the top is not latching
JA: Have you checked the brake fluid? How's the level and when was it last changed?
Customer: I dont know. I plan to have it serviced soon. along with the oil
JA: Are you fixing your New Beetle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I just recieved it yesterday., Visual only
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: 77,000 miles. I also smell hot oil. when I turn it off.

hey how are you

you will need a factory scanner or equivalent to run a diagnostic scan & retrieve fault codes from Top module

1- most likely one of the micro switches to the top is malfunction,if the top module senses an error in the top opening or closing sequence you will get that flashing light

We can try a Master reset if you like ,in case it was a glitch

Master reset Procedure

1- Disconect Battery Cables ( Negative & Positive Cables )you can use any electrical wire as an extension if battery cables don't reach .

2- Hold cables Together for 60 secs ,then let go

3- Wait 15 minutes

4- Make sure all doors are closed

5- Reconnect battery Cables

6- Lock & unlock the vehicles using the key from driver door side (if you have a key fob with no blade key, just lock & unlock using the key fob buttons)

7- Enter the vehicle and attempt to start

Please let me know

Thank You
