got a 2006 jetta tdi putting out lots of black smoke in 2nd gear works perfect other than that.
JA: How many miles are on the car? Have you been losing oil or coolant?
Customer: 230 000 not using oil or loosing coolant
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: yes .I have tried a new air filter and fuel filter .there is no check engine light on
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: the car does not smoke in any other gear

Hi im kevin the most likely cause is the egr valve becoming clogged with carbon .removing and cleaning egr will normally solve this type of issue
