Volkswagen New Beetle: I bought a new key with a remote at

Customer Question

I bought a new key with a remote at the dealership. I took it home and programmed the remote by myself as per a Youtube clip. It is working, but when I use the new key the engine doesn't turn on. When I use the regular key, the engine turns on fine. Any suggestions as to what the problem is? 2002 New Beetle TDI.

Hi Jeff,You have programmed the remote part but not the transponder chip to the immobilizer. For that you will need the dealer to program the key to the immobilizer, or a mobile key programmer.Gary
