Is it only when you are stopped, at an idle? DOes it change if you turn the car off and restart it? Are specific lights coming on, or all the lights as if the car has already died? If the Check Engine Light is on, there will be faults stored (which you can get read for FREE at Autozone or other large chain parts stores)

the dash lights will all come on and start flashing.. then the cars goes to like it wants to cut off.. seems when the cars cools off it will run fine again.. and yes the check engine light stays on all the time.

You need to get the faults read- otherwise there are quite a number of different things that could be the issue, all of which involve throwing parts at it- and you don't want to do that. If the check engine light is flashing, then it means there is a current misfire (and it could cause damage to the catalytic converter, which is expensive, hence the flashing t alert you not to ignore it)
