Customer Question

2011 jetta tdi runs great. Will not start after driving and turning off. After waiting will restart. Took to dealer and its still there. They said the part of the ecu is not communicating. Have order a used ecu the dealer said they would reprogram. went to check and see if ecu had tamper screws and tried to start it started three different times no problem. Ecu is throwing no codes at all. Car had the high pressure pump problem at 92k miles dealer repaired under warranty now has 102k miles and this starting problem. Is the dealer correct?

Dealer did not tell us if there were any other fault codes just that part of the ecu was bad and needed to be replaced

They were not very imformative we asked but all they would say was that part of the ecu wasn't working and that their were no codes set. The car runs fine once started. All i had to back up their story was a obd2/can reader which read no codes in 07a or 07c im readiness showed no problems but the fuel timing was running from 5.8 to 6.2 constantly changing at idle but they said that was normal also. The initial problem started after filling the fuel tank car was started and moved about thirty feet and sat for approximately 20 minutes, when trying to start it would turn over but not start. After five attempts the car started and was drove approximately 3 miles and turned off again, after approx 10 minutes the car was restarted ok. The next time the care was driven for approx 120 miles and turned off and would not restart it sat for approximately 2 hours and restarted. The car was then driven to dealership turned off this was approx 15 miles. The car would fire but not start. We left it with dealer and they called and stated the above about ecu and a new one was 1700 dollars. Found a used one for 160 told dealer they said they could reprogram but would not RnR the ecu. The RnR takes about two minutes since this one doesn't have the tamperproof screws. The replacement Ecu just arrived about 5 minutes ago match one on care. The whole point of asking about this is it seems odd that part of the ecu can be dead and the car still run and start. The starting being after a wait. We did go to dealer ourselves and tried to start the car and it started three times as normal but have no idea when the car was last run. Do know the left rear tire had a wrench sticking out which means someone used it. Any help would be appreciated.

sorry for the delay ! i have had issues with ecu's going on the fritz but powers and grounds needs to be checked . there are also relays that controls powers too. that is why the full module scan will tell more . so its hard because i cannot do tests to isolate that it is the ecu or powers to the ecu or even a bad ground that heats up at times causing the stall or no run
