VW Jetta: where is the trans cooler on a 2003 jetta 2.0 auto,

This answer was rated:

where is the trans cooler on a 2003 jetta 2.0 auto, can it be by-passed?

internal88 :

Hello, I'm Brandon.

internal88 :

The trans cooler is on the top of the transmission.

internal88 :

Click on the link for details.

internal88 :

No, it cannot be bypassed.

internal88 :

Bypassing the transmission cooler will trigger check engine light and overheat the transmission.

Customer:

I am getting trans fluid into my cooling system.

internal88 :

You have a leak between the coolant and transmission fluid.

Customer:

How is that fixed?

internal88 :

Have you open up the trans cooler yet?

Customer:

No

internal88 :

#1 first you need to do a coolant pressure test to see where is leak coming from?

Customer:

I bought a trans cooler from autozone. It looks like a mini radiator, I take it that this can not work?

internal88 :

no, they gave you the wrong one.

internal88 :

Your trans cooler is on top of the tranmission.

internal88 :

Any external leak from the oil cooler will cause the coolant and transmission fluid mixed.

internal88 :

You will need to replace the trans cooler and a new o ring as part of the new replacement.

internal88 :

After this is done - replace the current coolant and the transmission fluid with new fluid.

internal88 :

what is your engine code?

internal88 :

AVH?

internal88 :

Do you see the oil cooler under the hood? What does it look like?

internal88 :

It should look like a square type cooler.

Customer:

3vwsv29m122618 is my vin. I think AVH is correct.

Customer:

I am not with the car but the guy I have looking at it said it is on top of the trans. Sorry, that is all I know.

internal88 :

Yes the is correct.

internal88 :

If you click on the link above.

internal88 :

You will see all the oil cooler available for your vehicle.

internal88 :

I belive the square type oil cooler is the one you will need.

Customer:

My guy sasid it is square but that there is a little triangle shape on one side.

internal88 :

that is correct.

internal88 :

The oil cooler is about $50 with the o - ring seal.

Customer:

That all for now, got to get back to work. A big help thanks.

internal88 :

You are welcome.

Customer:

I live in the Cayman Islands and nothing is $50 here, not for a car!! I may have to wait until someone goes to the states to get the part. If it is $50 there it will be 150-200 here.

Customer:

I have another email address can we conect by that too?

Customer: [email protected]
internal88 :

You could probably get one from ebay.com. Yes, the import charge will be expensive. You can contact me by coming back to this specific chat room.

Customer:

Huge help. Thanks.

internal88 :

You are welcome. Have a good day.
