Hello, I'm Brandon.
The check engine light is ON - that means there is a problem with one of the sensor that is related to emission system.
Have you retrieved the trouble code yet?
You can retrieve the code hooking up an OBD2 scanner into the OBD2 port.
Or you can visit one of Autozone store and they can scan it for you.
I need the P code in order for me to define it for you.
If the engine control module (ECM) recognizes a malfunction that leads to increased emission values, it indicates them by illuminating the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) which is located in the instrument cluster. The ECM switches on the MIL after the ignition is switched on. Shortly after the engine is started, the MIL goes out if the ECM does not detect a malfunction that increases the emission values. If the ECM recognizes a malfunction that leads to increased emissions during the operation of the engine, the ECM switches on the MIL and an entry is stored in the DTC memory of the ECM.
What's the engine control system light about - that came on first. The car lost a great deal of acceleration.
The computer found one of the engine management sensor is malfunction. Your car needs to be scan to retrieve the trouble code.
The trouble code will give us a clue what is going wrong in your car.
Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX it in to the VW dealer - is this common?

Yes - like I mentioned before the code will give you a specific area to identify the problem.
