Volkswagen Jetta: Driving - 2004 Jetta. Battery light came

Resolved Question:

Driving - 2004 Jetta. Battery light came on. Headed to dealer and car died? Budget tight, any idea on most likely cause and cost to repair? Also a circle with upside down exclamation point is lit.

This is all caused by a shorted alternator which also killed the battery.Parts and labor at the dealer will be 500 plus a tow if needed . I would go to an independant shop it will cost about 250 parts and labor . This is the most common issue for your problem and would start here next .Hoped this helped . Bonuses greatly appreciated.
