My 2010 Golf TDI has been running fine. Went to start it this morning and it won't turn over. Everything clicks and flashes, then a message comes on saying ESP error and tells me to move the selector to P or N. Tried again in park and neutral, no luck. Tried racking the steering wheel to be sure that steering was not locked. No luck. Any thoughts? car has 34K miles on it, never a problem of any kind before.

Hello I would liek to help you with this.
this Sounds like a problem with the Neutral safty interlock switch.
This Switch is what prevents you from starting the car in any gear accept P or N
it might be that the Swicth is out of adjust ment or has failed.
Try this Make sure your e-brake is on and working and you foot is on the brake. Try and start the car while movingthe shifter. if you cna get it to start then the safty Switch is out of ajust ment. If not then it most likely has failed.
Relist: Answer quality.First of all, the above buttons should allow more than one to be selected. Answer quality was poor. Answer came too late. I ended up having the car towed before the answer came. I do not want my card charged. I am not at all happy. If I am charged, trust that I will contest w/ BBB.
