REPLACED TRANSMITTER AND STILL GET SAME CODE INSTANTLY.IS IT POSSIBLE IT IS OUT OF SYNC. IF IT IS WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO SYNC IT.POSSIBLE A TOOTH OFF.ALL MARKS SEEM TO LINE UP TIMING BELT WISE
Pull the distributor cap and put the engine at tdc, the center of the rotor should line up with the mark on the surface of the distributor that contacts the distributor cap when it's installed. Additionally, too much slack in the timing belt can cause this code and it can also set if the vehicle is running poorly. Let me know what you find.Danny
TIMING BELT IS NEW ,ALL MARKS LINE UP.IS IT POSSIBLE THE FUEL PUMP THING I MENTIONED EARLYIER COULD BE AT FAULT.WHAT IS FUEL PRESSURE RATING FOR THIS VEHICLE...THANKS
Was the fault there before you did the belt? I understand marks line up by hand cranking, misfires and improper tension can cause this. The line on the distributor lines up as well?VW doesn't use fuel pressure tests, the procedure requires a fuel pressure guage with a shutoff valve in front of it, you close the valve until the gauge reads 44 psi and then operate the pump for exactly 30 seconds and then measure the amount of fuel outputted in ccs and it shoyld be between 450 and 600 cc.The fuel pump relay is not involved in the hall sender, it gets power directly from the fuse box an the other two wires go to the engine computer.Danny

DON'T KNOW ABOUT PREVIOUS CODE. CUSTOMER SAID LIGHT WAS ON YEAR AGO AND HASN'T SEEN IT SINCE.IT DOES HAVE A KIND OF ROUGH IDLE AND ALL CYLINDERS ARE FIRING.THERE IS AN ARROW ON TIMING COVER WITH XXXXX XXXXXNED UP TO THAT ,THE NOTCH ON FLYWHEEL IS IN MIDDLE OF RETANGLE ON TRANS.TIMING WAS SET WITH NOTCH CENTERED WITH BOTTOM OF RETANGLE EDGE,DIST ROTOR WITH MARK ON DIST RIM,CAM AT THE O&T MARK ON GEAR AM RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS EXCEPT TO JUMPA TOOTH FORWARD OR BACK TO SEE WHAT IT DOES. I DO NOT HAVE THE TYPE OF TESTER YOU MENTIONED BUT COULD PROBABLY PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER THAT WOULD WORK
Ahhh, don't use the flywheel mark, it's almost never right, if somebody does a clutch job and doesn't reinstall the flywheel and pressure plate right it'll be way off. Use the mark on the crank pulley and timing cover.Danny
I DIDN'T THINK OF THAT . IT IS AN AUTO ,SO I GUESS OLD SCHOOL WITH DOWEL ROD IN SPARK PLUG HOLE I'LL LET YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS......THANKS ,MICHAEL
DANNY ,DID THE OLD SCHOOL WAY AND FOUND 2 IDENTICAL MARKS 30 DEGREES APART FROM ONE ANOTHER . SET IT TO XXXXX TO BE TDC WHICH WAS 2 TEETH OFF .IDLES LIKE A BABYS BOTTOM AND HAS MORE RESPONSE THAN WHEN IT CAME HERE,THANKS FOR THE TIP ON FLYWHEEL
Yup, never use that mark, the damper always works on these, they don't slip on VWs. Glad we got it figured out.Danny
