Helloas you may know the flashing glow plug light on these means there's an engine fault Teh best thing to do is what you're planning and to have the car plugged into a diagnostic as this will save time and money by pointing to the fault.If the car is driving OK with no power restriction then its likely to be minor and therefore cheap.however if you've got black smoke and are down on power then it could be any number of things from a bad connection to the fuel lift pump to a failed turboSorry I can't be more precise than this, with this informationif you get back to me with more data I'll try to help further
