Customer Question

I have a 2001 vw Jetta it turns on fine I drive it for about 10 mins then it turns off it cools down and turns on again and the same thing after about 10 mins it turns off! Could it be a faulty cam sensor? It does have a check engine light but it's not letting me put the obd on it I'm trying to fix that issue

gomi_otaku :

Typically not the Cam sensor but the crank speed sensor- it is located just above the oil pan, on the front of the block, near the transmission bellhousing. if you follow the wiring, it goes up along the dipstick tube and ends in a white/grey connector with three pins.

gomi_otaku :

If you have an Ohm meter, and measure from the center pin to one of the outer pins, it should be under 950 kOhms, and between the other combinations of pins it should have no continuity. As it heats up, resistance value rises, and if it goes out of spec the vehicle will not run until it cools down again.

Did you measure the resistance of the crank sensor?

I'm thinking your stored faults are going to tell you what the issue is, if you can get the scan tool to communicate. I hate to suggest throwing parts at it!

I'm thinking your entire problem may be that there is a module in the system that is blocking the CAN-BUS. it is keeping the modules from communicating with each other, or with the scan tool on the diagnostic port.
You may need to start disconnecting modules one at a time and then seeing if you can communicate. Since the diagnostic BUS is located in the cluster, don't disconnect that- but maybe start with the comfort system, then the ABS, Airbag, TCM (if automatic) then the ECM...
