I have an 89 Jetta with 200k miles plus on it . It has just been sitting in a NJ shore garage for 2 yrs.. Best car I have ever driven, it fits me like a glove.I'd like to do a complete restoration of it over a period of 2-3 years ( rebuilt engine, transmission, body and interior etc.) and keep as a vehicle for fun runs around the shore.A little history:1st time I played the NJ lottery I won 5/6 and bought "Elaine" for 14k. The car has hit a deer at full speed on Rt.18..damaged hood.., survived river water up to its windowshield from Tropical storm Floyd, been stolen for a drug run to D.C., and broken into numerous times back in the day. A blessed and lucky car, when fully tuned, " Elaine" flies like a plane on a highway. I am torn between letting this wonderful car go or restoring it. Therefore , I am asking about what can a restoration cost, and other than for sentimental reasons, is it worth it? Would I be enabling a money pit? BTW I am not mechanically inclined, but love old cars. :( XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX In the Central NJ area, is there anybody who can be recommended to do this work. Central Jersey would mean anywhere from New Brunswick (08901)to Asbury Park (07712).
