Hipo64 :

Hi and Welcome to just answer!do you know the 3 letters for the engine

Customer:

no

Hipo64 :

ok, just a moment

Customer:

i see the mark for the camshaft but i need help with the crank shaft pulley

Hipo64 :

yes it is coming

Hipo64 :

I am working on it

Customer:

where is this located at i found a opening towards the top front of the block i see the mark on the flywheel but cant find a mark to line it up with

Hipo64 :

on top of transmission, there is griin plug on top of the hole

Hipo64 :

I mean green

Customer:

the hole i found does not have a plug

Hipo64 :

ok it may not have it, some of them are removed by people

Hipo64 :

you look for a little -0-

Customer:

i just see a - on the fly wheel

Hipo64 :

also look at your camshaft lobes to be pointing up, and if you touch piston on #1 cylinder with screw driver it will be at top

Hipo64 :

cyliner #4 cam lobes will be down.

Customer:

how close do i have to be

Hipo64 :

it must be perfect, if you miss a tooth you will loose power

Customer:

i see the mark on the flywheel and it is just a line not a 0 with a dash on each side

Customer:

am i looking at the wrong mark

Hipo64 :

there is no dashes just a 0

Customer:

no. it's just a line

Hipo64 :

doeas it look lake a deep cut V

Customer:

no it's just a line

Hipo64 :

do this, remove spark plug and incert somthing to touch top of the piston#1

Customer:

yes i did that

Hipo64 :

then slowly move crankshaft so you can feel movement. try to locate the very top point

Hipo64 :

then look at line or 0 or a cut - it will be the correct one

Customer:

the line on the flywheel ends up in the center of the opening

Hipo64 :

is the oopeng round/

Customer:

no its rectangular

Customer:

i had to remove the coil pack to see it

Hipo64 :

hm, line must be at the end like on the picture, ok, try to locate the mark on the front pulley and then recheck

Customer:

yea it end up close to the top

Customer:

but what do i line that up with i really dont see a mark on cover or block

Hipo64 :

you must clean it, it will be small line on the cover, if you cannot see it , use paint to make your own mark, but it is there

Customer:

i pulled the cover off cleaned it and inspected it really good

Hipo64 :

you have piston at top, transmission mark in place, camshaft in place and then you are good.

Customer:

well i started it and it idles rough

Customer:

and has a misfire

Customer:

is the timing off

Hipo64 :

check your compression, you are having bend valves modtlikely

Hipo64 :

when timing belt brakes, camshft will stop and pistons will hit valves which are oppend

Hipo64 :

in some cases this does not happen, but not too often.

Customer:

would this happen to more than one valve i showes a misfire on cylinder 3

Customer:

what symptoms would i have if the timing was off

Hipo64 :

no power, hard start

Hipo64 :

octane knok

Customer:

it starts perfect

Hipo64 :

you have damaged valves

Customer:

only in idle i get the misfire and my engine light flashes. but when i rev it up it goes away

Hipo64 :

check compression

Hipo64 :

and you will know right away

Customer:

what is a good compression reading for this vehicle

Hipo64 :

180psi

Customer:

if timing was off would i get a misfire

Hipo64 :

no

Customer:

a compression check will tell me if i have bent valves

Hipo64 :

yes

Customer:

ok i will do that \

Customer:

thanks
