Customer Question

Hello there! I have a 2007 Touareg with 120,000 miles on it. As I was driving on surface streets I heard this very loud thunking noise and stopped because I thought I had blown a tire. Sounded like rubber slapping along the road. But, no blown tires. The noise feels like it's coming from underneath the car in the middle and starts up when I go over 20 mph. It is very upsetting to say the least. What do you think? Thanks very much for your valued opinion. Kindest regards, XXXXX (yes, my initials are VW ;-)

Hi .... I would like to assist you with your question. From your description of the symptoms/noise you are hearing it sounds like a common problem we have on these vehicles. The problem will most likely be your rear driveshaft on the vehicle. The drive shaft has a center bearing made of rubber that wears out and causes it to shake violently. To fix it the driveshaft will have to be replaced. The bearing unfortunately is not replaceable by itself. Contact me if you have further questions on this issue.

Thanks, David

Super sigh... but thanks! I realize there is probably some local varible, but what do estimate a reasonable cost for this would be? Do I have to sell two children? (just kidding...)

Thanks!

Lol...at least you have a sense of humor about it. Labor wise at my my dealer we charge 2 hours labor to put it in @ $111.00 an hour. The driveshaft itself is unfortunately not cheap it runs about 800.00 - 1000.00 depending if the engine is a 6cylinder or 8. Also depends on the dealer some charge more than others. Goodluck and contact me back if you have further questions Thanks, David
