The problem is solved with a long extension and a 13mm socket(i am not 100% sure on size but I think it is 13mm) you will stick the extension between the cover and the starter to remove a nut that holds the connector on. The top bolt for the starter has a stud on the back side that hold on the cover that you need to remove.

I have removed the nut that holds the connector on, but the connection will not move in order to clear they stud. it's to tight??

I have seen this before, you just need to make sure there is enough slack to move it and then it get pushed over about 3/4 inch to clear the stud. I know that it doesn't feel like it can move but it will just push alittle harder.

Can I use a Screwdriver and get behind it and pry it off the stud? By doing this could I brake the connector? Is it used for a ground? Could I brake the connector prying on it that hard? Once I get it off the stud anything wrong to shorting the stud before I reinstall the Starter? Any other thoughts Stan

Ok lets just make sure we are talking about the same connector.

This is the only vw I have in the shop and it is a diesel but it is close. The wire connector comes out of the holder by moving it foward then the holder that is on the starter bolt stud should move to the right and come off with ease. Does this look right?
