Customer Question

I have an 05 beetle with the 2L engine, and it will intermittently lose headlights, wipers, blower fan and radio. All fuses checked good, and curiously, the high beams work when you flash them, but not when you switch to highs. Any thoughts? BCM perhaps?

Optional Information:
Year: 2005
Make: Volkswagen
Model: New Beetle
Engine: 2.0L NA

Already Tried:
checked all fuses Tried as many systems as possible to determine what was affected Tried restarting the car several times. Tried jiggling key in case of loose connection.

It sounds like the load reduction relay is the cause. It is a relay that the car uses to power all those things up. When the car is in the start position it turns the power off to them to allow more power for the starter.

where in the car would I find that?

it is under the dash on the drivers side. you will need to pull the cover that is just above the pedals and there is a relay board and it is in position #2 from the top left side of the board of relays.
