1995 vw golf speedometer and tachometer dont work most of the time

1995 Volkswagen golf

Already Tried:
checked for loose wires dont know what else to look for. Speedo needle vibrates when ign is on and stops a few seconds after turning key off.

hi unit

sometime a bad ground from the battery to the body will cause this..so check this first..also i have seen the cluster itself go bad..but check the grounds first

it starts fine and all othe acc work includ head lights. Every once in a while the speedo and tach work. I will look at the ground wire.

yeah..check the grounds,and hope for the best.....like i said it may be the cluster..i hope not
