Customer Question

I''ve got a 1998 R reg VW Golf GTi & had a new starte motor fitted recently. Since it was fit my alarm & immobiliser doesn''t work. The mechanic seems to think its a conlog alarm. It would normally lock & unlock my car & would close the sunroof & windows automatically. Do you know how i can get the alarm working again as the mechanic is unsure (even though he used to fit them with VW)?

Sometimes if the drivers door lock is faulty then the alarm will not reset, try locking all the doors, then unlock and open the trunk, do not close, then open the door and try to start, if that does not work, then again lock the vehicle all doors, then try the passenger side, unlock and open the door, again do not close, then open the drivers door and try to start, one of these will normally reset the alarm control unit, just for info this vehicle is not equipted with immobilizer, that is newer vehciles only. It does have an alarm but no immobilizer.

Immobilzer is the system that uses a transponder in the key and there is a key reader built into the ignition switch

Reply to David's Post: I've just found out that the alarm & immobiliser is actually a Scorpion 5000 Thatcham Alarm. Have you any idea how i can reset it. I have a key that goes into the alarm that is under the bonnet but my mechanic has tried to reset it without any success.
