Have Volvo Questions? Ask a Volvo Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Hello, my name is***** am a Volvo Certified Master Technician. I will be glad to help you, I have a few questions that will better help me. Have you recently had transaxle or transfer case work done on your vehicle? There are a couple of seals behind the angle gear (transfer case) that will leak transaxle fluid if damaged or defective. There is also a sleeve that connects to the angle gear to drive it. That is the part that actually seals into the transaxle. More than likely this seal is leaking, There is also a possibility the front transaxle pump seal is leaking, but the fluid would come out of the weep hole right at the bottom of where the flywheel is. You will probably have to remove the angle gear and inspect the seals behind it.
