Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

There are many things that can cause the check engine light to come on and the engine to run rough, it's going to take some testing to determine what is wrong. The engine light comes on when the engine controller sees a failure in a monitored component and sets a fault code. The problem could be as simple as a spark plug, it could be a coil or injector issue, wiring, internal engine, any engine sensor, fuel quality; a failure of any component in the powertrain can turn the light on.

The first step in diagnosing the problem will be to use a code reader or scan tool to see what fault codes have set and then testing can be done from there.
