my volvo 2006 is stuck in park and I can't get it out, what should I do?
JA: Do you have brake lights? Have any trouble codes popped up?
Customer: yes I have brake lights,and no codes
JA: What is the model of your '06 Volvo?
Customer: xc90
JA: Are you fixing your XC90 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: no I don't do any repairs myself and I got it out once but it dosen't work now
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

There are some people that are able to clean the cable in the shifter and work it back and forth to get it moving. You can use wd40 to clean. You will need to remove the trim around the shifter.

I have also seen the gear shift knobs cause this problem. The shift lock solenoid could also be stuck.

The shifter need to be disassembled and inspected to find the problem. There are a lot of videos on the net about this problem as well.

There is also a way to manual override the shift lock to get it into gear manually.
