Customer Question

Hello, I have a Volvo S40 and from 2 days ago I have a message on the car display that says "Boot lid open"
JA: What year is your S40?
Customer: 2009
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I tried to open and shut the trunk but the message doesn't disappear
JA: Has the battery died recently?
Customer: No
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: The battery has 1 year
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Volvo Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Hello, my name is***** am an ASE master tech, and I can help you with this.

You might have a bad switch for the truck ajar. This sends the open and close signal to the bcm and then this message will be displayed. The switch for the trunk is built into the latch. You would need to check the voltage at the latch and see if the switch is open or closed. Also check for loose connections, and broken wirings.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks Dan
