Cam, thank you for your patience. My time to work on my car has been limited, and a few new concerns have arisen.
Firstly, I removed both the ECU and the TCU from their box on the front left fender. When I opened the ECU, I found moisture droplets on the board. But no signs of any arcing or scorching. No smell of cooked electronics. The TCU was also damp when I gently opened it as well.
My research told me that "conditioned" air was circulated from the cabin via a fan and duct to keep these components dry. This led me to lift the carpet in the passenger foot well(as best I could). Though the carpets are dry, I found that water, that I believe has leaked from the possibly clogged sunroof drains. I removed the stereo amp from under the seat and also found clean clear water, but only 1/16" deep.. My plan is to remove the front seats, being carefully of static and the airbags, and then removing the molded carpet to dry it completely..
My first question. Is it possible that my ECU, and/or my TCU, was "cooked" due to this moisture issue?
Second, I've been charging the battery, out of the car, and have found the battery is toast. So a new battery is coming. I've read that if the battery isn't up to its peak that this could cause issues, like failure to start. Is this true?
Third, the vehicle did not come with any keyless fobs, but only one key; though it seems to be a chipped key(plastic head). If my key were not properly coded to my car, would it still turn over? Could THIS be my issue for the car not starting?
My plan, as of now, is to replace the battery, reinstall the ECU & TCU, and put all the engine
pieces back in place. I have a friend sending me a laptop with VADIS and a cord to try and get a more accurate reading of the vehicles diagnostics. And then work through the tasks you sent me before..
Thank you for your patience and time. I bought this vehicle as a "project" and feel that I CAN solve its issues. Having your assistance makes this feel even more true..
