volvoexpert1 : Hello! That sounds like a bad ECT sensor. It's lscrewed into the side of the thermostat housing, which is inside the side timing belt cover, just under the cam pulleys.
volvoexpert1 : This will seta code in the ECM about the signal being missing, and shut down the A/C and turn on the fan. I have seen thi
volvoexpert1 : I have seen this a lot lately in cars where someone has installed an aftermarket ECT sensor. I recommend using the Volvo part.
volvoexpert1 : I've never seen a 99 S80 with a voltmeter on the dash. Was this owner installed? If so there's no telling how or where it's hooked up. The load test and voltage after recovery seem to indicate the charging system is ok.

ok I changed the ECT with a direct volvo ECT.. still no temp indication or a/c engagement and stumbling on start..took it to a repair shop today that had the volvo software.. he cleared the codes all of them and restarted the car.. same thing same set of codes....hes pulling his hair out @ 85 per hour.... can you give me a direction to head for further troubleshooting. cuz i got a feeling this is going to kick his a** and im going to end back up looking at this car.. any help is appreciated... is there a block diagram(schematic) that shows the flow of volts/ signals etc..down to the ecm? thanks ..the codes that were set were engine service soon stc(trans?) service soon.. and yes you are correct..its the fuel guage in the lower right corner(in all fairnessive never seen a gas gauge broken down into increments( hahah) anyway. any help would be appreciated...

Ok the 2 wires to the sensor go directly to the ECM. The ECM is in the box by the windshield washer reservoir spout in the front corner passenger side. The gray/red wire is the signal and goes to terminal A4 on the ECM. The brown/black wire is the signal ground, and goes to terminal A60 on the ECM. Check these 2 wires for continuity, shorts to 12 volts, shorts to ground (on the signal wire). The ECM is the module closest to the fender. I'm not sure how you can get it out without the special cam locking lever tool to slide back the pink plastic cam lock mounting strips, one on each side of the ECM. The terminal numbers are marked in very small numbers on the socket. It's 1AM here, I must retire. Let me know about the wires.41108.2075418634
