Customer Question

I have a 2005 Volvo XC90 T6. I bought it in London used at 48k mi, imported to Kenya . I now have 57k mi on it. Just noticed the "Transmission Service Urgent" message. I went to a local foreign car auto shop. The scan revealed a "G3" issue. I imagine that was a gear 3 slip issue. The car still runs but i feel their my be some sluggishness at times.

My reading of the blogs has my freaking out. A new tranny?? What is my solution. Is there not a repair that lasts? People are on their 3rd and 4th tranny's. What is this ECM issue and how is it related?

Country: Kenya
Make: Volvo
Model: XC90 T6

Enes :

Hello and welcome to Justanswer.com my name is XXXX X'X a Certified Volvo Car Expert Mechanic.I'm going to try to help you find the help you need .

Enes :

bad news is you have t6 and 90% of time all problems are inside transmission and will require new tranamission

Enes :

sliping 3rd or 4th gear is sluggish indicates transmission clutches slipping forwhat you say it looks like a bad trans

Enes :

best is for good price order new trans from usa and shipp to kenya last costumer had same problem and he order the trans from usa if you need help ordering i can find you help

Customer :

What else needs to be replaced and how urgently should I replace it. As I said the sluggishness was almost unnoticeable but car seems to run fine. I know I have to replace it. But as a repalcement, am I not simply replacing a lemon with another. Is ita better product i would be buying? How large is the part.

Customer :

Where is the green button. Don't see it.

Customer :

There is NO ACCEPT BUTTON on my screen! Where is it?

Enes : Transmission is very large close to 300lb
Enes : You can drive until it stop it can take months before it brakes all the way
Enes : If you order original volvo those are updated and will not have problems
Customer :

Should I try to get the message removed each time? And how do I pay u. Dont see button

Enes : Cost to get all parts for transmission. Are around $8000
Enes : You can tray to delete the message and see how fast it comes back
Customer :

Wow! How is it costing 5000 for everything in blogs? How do I delete message. At shop?

Enes : Also check left axle remove the Volvo center cap behind that is bolt remove it fluid leaks out bad sign trans is contained with axle grease replace axle and flush fluid in trans if you see that
Enes : You can buy obd scanner and delete or any shop has scanner
Enes : $5000 is maybe just a trans but there lot little parts that will be replaced if you like to do it right
Enes : Im not sure how much is at your end but in USA you pay with labor and parts around $9000
Customer :

I hear the new tranny may be too slow to reduce torque. True? Thanks!

Enes : New trans is good no problems it better than old one but you. Change trans and other parts that damage trans like radiator. And axle those bring Thr cost up. If you don't change you risk new trans to be damaged if those parts fail
Enes : To give me credit just rate me positive that is feedback to me
Customer :

Does it matter if I order from London/sweden or USA, and who should I do it with if in USA?

Enes : Trans is made in USA is a gm trans build for Volvo
Enes : Only for t6 engines
Enes : Is world wide sold but gm makes it
Customer :

Please leave me your contact info. And lastly, can I expect more than say 6 months if I am easy on the car?

Enes : You can but Check fluid. And the axle bolt on left front ASAP to make sure is not leaking mixing oil
