volvoexpert1 : If you are sure the bulbs are good, the problem is evidently with the bulb failure sensor module in the trunk.
volvoexpert1 : Since the 3rd light works, the input is proven ok to the sensor. But the outputs to the bulbs has failed. The sensor is a blue rectangular unit hidden in the back of the spare tire compartment, probable in the left rear corner unde a Floor brace.
Customer :

Took everything out of spare tire compartment and there is no electrical unit of any type that I can find. Please advise?

volvoexpert1 : My memory is a little fuzzy but I know it's back there. It may be in the left rear corner under the taillight, behind the side trip panel under the frame rail brace. You may have to take loose the left trim panel and reach under the brace to find it. It is a light blue box about the size of a pack of cigarettes with several wires in it's connector at the bottom.
Customer :

I will go look in this location.

Customer :

Found a box in this location, although it is white (like the case of a computer white) not LT blue. Seems to be what your were directing me to. Now do I need to replace this module or is there a test to see if it is the problem?

Customer :

Also is "bulb failure sensor module" the actual name of this component? Trying to look up at parts store and getting "no part found" replys.

volvoexpert1 : Yes that must be it. You won't find it in a parts stor, it will have to come from the dealer , or one of the Volvo specialty vendors online, like IPD or FCP Groton. To test, unplug the unit. With the brakes applied, jump inuput 12(yellow) to 14(yellow/gray) for left stop light. 12 to 13(yellow/brown) for right.
