Customer Question

Andy, The repairs to b4 servor cover did not help my trans problem. I get a shift flair from 2 to 3 and from 3 to 4 after the shift happens the gear is solid and if I hard accelerate no slipage occurs. Shifts from 1 to 2 and 4 to 5 fine all of the time. 2001 volvo v70 t5 with geartronic trans. the car has 138,000 miles and I think the former owner towed a camper. the car is in great shape and I really want to hold on to it. I just now changed the trans fluid with Volvo fluid. The old fluid looked real bad but no metal on the magnet. I posted a question last week about engine idle problem. I may have a intake leak. I will be taking into the shop to correct this problem. Could an intake leak cause the shift prolems?

Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX

Hello again,
Because the car was used for towing, you may need a transmission. However, there is something that can be tried first. The Transmission Control Module monitors shifting and compensates shift pressures for age of the fluid. When the fluid is changed, these values need to be reset. A Volvo dealership will be needed to perform this though. Also, your TCM software should be checked for updates, as there are updates for general shift quality issues. Prior to the update, the dealership should check for any fault codes stored in the TCM. Regarding the vacuum leak, the transmission does not use any vacuum control so that is more than likely a different issue.
