Volvo S60 2002 Volvo S60, the dash lights and gauges have

Resolved Question:

2002 Volvo S60, the dash lights and gauges have stopped working, if you hit the dash with your hand the lights and gauges will start working again. The problem continues to get worse. Any ideas?

Unfortunately this is a common problem with the Driver Information Module, which is the cluster. It needs to be replaced. Once replaced, the new unit needs a software download to work which only a dealership can perform. Parts and labor is about $1300 here in the states. There is another option though. There is a company who rebuilds DIMs for much less. Then a software download is not needed because it is the same DIM that is already programmed to the car. Here is the link:

A used unit will not work. Once the DIM is programmed to a vehicle it can only be used in that vehicle.
