I have a 2002 Volvo S80 T6. The brake service message came on and then went off the next day and has stayed off since (for about a week). I was previously told it meant the abs module needed to be changed but the hydrolic brakes would work as normal. My f/u question is since the message no longer appears, does that mean the message was likely an internitent issue or should I still have the braking system checked out?

I haven't tried anything. The message didn't appear the next day and everything seems to work as normal.
if you don't have light on the fault was intermittent you don't need to fix it right a way only if the light comes back i would run computer scan and come back here ask follow up most the time you will need abs module but sometimes intermittent problem take long time before they come back.
you can make sure if your abs works if you have somewhere slippery road and press on the brake see if the abs come on or if your wheels just block than you know abs is not working and needs to be fixed most the time abs will work .
