I have PowerShot S3 and I left the rechargeable batteries in

Customer Question

I have PowerShot S3 and I left the rechargeable batteries in the camera, where the batteries leaked. I can still use the viewer for pictures I've all ready taken, but the viewer won't open when I try to take a picture.
JA: What's the exact make and model of the camera? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: I bought it in 2006. It's an Se IS.
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I happened recently. When I try to turn on the picture taking mode, the lens extends, but the viewer is still blocked. I noticed some damage in the battery compartment.
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I've the expense to repair the camera is significant, I'd rather purchase another Canon point and shoot.

Hi there and welcome
Can you remove the battery please then hold the shutter button down for 60 seconds then release.
Wait 5 minutes, put the battery back in and try to turn it on.
Tell me please if it now operates correctly
Thank you
