I have a Nikon D90 camera and an AF Nikkor 35-70 mm 1:2.8 D

Customer Question

I have a Nikon D90 camera and an AF Nikkor 35-70 mm 1:2.8 D lens. The camera was dropped in airport security. The lens ring came loose and the lens separated from the camera. I recovered the screws and a small slightly curved metal piece. I was able to replace the lens ring but could not find where the curved metal piece goes. I am indoors and the camera seems to be working fine right now, however, on several occasions, I cannot get the camera to auto focus until I move the telescoping lens slightly. Then it seems to work. Any suggestions?
