JA: What's the make/model of your camera? How old is it?
Customer: I HAVE A CANON POWERSHOT A4000. TODAY THE LENS WILL NOT EXTEND OUT. I GET A MESSAGE SAYING LENS ERROR
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS USING IT , SHUT IT OFF TO SAVE THE BATTERY AND WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON THE LENS ERROR MESSAGE CAME UP I CAN HEAR IT TRYING TO EXTEND

Sorry for any delay, this time of year can be very busy! :)

Try putting some gentle pressure on the lens as you turn on the camera to see if that helps the lens go back to the home position again.

If that doesn't work then the camera will need to be disassembled so that the lens mechanism can be reset.

A local camera repair tech can do this for you, or you can return the camera to Canon to have the lens mechanism repaired.
