Lens error on PowerShot SX530 HS. What to do? Tried

Customer Question

Hi. Lens error on PowerShot SX530 HS. What to do? Tried pressurized air, cleaning with thin slip of paper. Nothing works. Guess I need to take it in...?
JA: What's the exact make and model of your printer, and can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: It's under a year old. PowerShot SX530 HS.
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I hadn't used the camera in a while. Was using it in the park (outdoors) and lens was working fine. All of a sudden Lens Error message popped up. I've tried shooting the air in to dislodge sand or dirt. Tried cleaning around lens with thin piece of paper. Tried tapping it.
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No, thank you.

Hello and thank you for your question. I look forward to assisting you today. Try this. Lay the camera on down with the lens up. Press the and hold the shutter button then the power button. Try this several times to see if the lens will cycle. Let me know what happens please.

Hi. I tried it several times and everything stayed the same. The lens makes a little sound as if it's trying to come out, comes out just a teeny bit, then the screen says Lens Error and the camera shuts down.

Okay. What you can try as the lens is extending, try to gently pull it out with your fingers applying equal pressure using a side to side motion. Let me know please.
