Customer Question

I have a Canon XLH! camcorder. On filming recently, I discovered that even though I checked the footage I shot by rewinding the tape a minute or two from the end - it played fine. When I rewound the entire tape, and played it from the beginning in the camera, it began to stutter and go to black. My question is: can the tape be saved? And, what is wrong with the camera? The footage took me considerable effort to gather so I would like to save it if at all possible.
JA: What's the exact make and model of the camera? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: The make is a Canon XLH! Camcorder which came out in 2008 and shoots on HDV tape.
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I put the tape in a SONY Digital HD Videocassette Recorder (GV-HD700), and it did the same thing. So, that's when I tried playing it from the beginning in the camera and it did the same thing.
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No.

Hi there and welcome

If you play the tape where it is blank, and then pause it, do you see anything showing?
