Second opinion] - I own Canon digital camera PowerShot A710

Customer Question

Second opinion] - Hi I own Canon digital camera PowerShot A710 IS. Recently I have not been able to download images from the camera to my PC. To do so Iam using ZOOMBROWSER EX.
When I connect the camera to PC and turn the camera on, the power in camera goes off.
Iam using Windows 7. Thank's Richard Neuber.

Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

There are several things that could be wrong, or could be going wrong:

- the USB cable's power wires (one of the two needed to transmit the 5 volt power from the USB power) could be broken inside the cable. This might cause the camera to power Off.

- the camera could need to *not* be turned On when connected. Wait for it to turn On after connecting it, or connect it after turning it On first. (If the cable being broken inside and not giving power, nor even not enough power, were the problem, then waiting for it to turn On would have no result of course... or at most, it might turn On briefly then Off again.)

- the camera could, just possible, have a hardware problem. But, trying a different USB cable... or even a different USB port on the computer, as well... could solve the problem, and should be tried first before this is assumed to be the case.

Let me know what you find out, and what you think, please. Thanks.

Took camera with USB cable to Camera Repair store, they tested both. It worked fine there. They said that software maybe corupted.

In which case, uninstall the software, then restart your computer, then reinstall the software from a fresh source or fresh download (if you need pointing to a place for that last, let me know, and mention your computer's Windows version please.)
