Customer Question

Hello, I am typing my question now. Please be patient. My name is Ron
JA: What's the make/model of your camera? How old is it?
Customer: We received our G-16 Canon Camera for Christmas in 2014. We love the camera and have enjoyed using it. We lost our charger on vacation last year and went to Best Buy and purchased the recommended "ReFuel" charger and a "Refuel" second battery. to be continued in a minute...
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I have charged both batteries in the past without any problems. I took my camera out of the case a month ago and the camera didn't come on when I turned in on. I charged both batteries and tried both of them and the camera will not turn on... what can I do?
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I downloaded the Canon website and did what they recommended...charged and tried both batteries and used a swab to wipe off the contact points in the camera battery cavity and also the batteries.
JA: I'm not sure of the exact price, but there's only a $5 deposit. The rest of the price information will be on the page I send you to.
Customer: Are you saying that they will fix the camera while talking to me on line with a deposit of $5 and go from there?
JA: No. I'm the Camera Technician's Assistant.
Customer: So you are going to switch me to the expert? I have shared all that I have done. Will you pass this on to that expert?

Hi, thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

Have you used the camera recently with the usual batteries, or the older batteries you used before you bought the 'ReFuel' battery?

How long has the battery or batteries in the camera been in-use? If over a year, then you might possibly have a battery/batteries that are getting weak. Rechargeable batteries do get weaker with time, and eventually fail to deliver enough power to start up a device like a digital camera; they then need replacing. The replacement battery needs to be charged up for 6+ hours before its first use, owing to its having been on a shelf for a considerable time.

Has the camera been dropped or otherwise subjected to mechanical shock(s) in its lifetime?

Has the camera been operated in or subjected to, temperatures below 32 degrees F (freezing point) or above about 100 degrees F ?

Has it ever been subjected to a humidity higher than 85 % or gotten wet ?

Has the camera been operated in a gritty or sandy environment, such as a beach, a seaside, a construction site, or the like?

Good evening Russell,The original battery was used in our camera back in June of this year. I am not sure if I used the replacement battery as well. However, when I attempted to use either battery in August after charging them overnight, the camera would not turn on. I haven't been able to use it since. It has never been dropped, in sand, extreme temperatures, hot, or cold.

Still here....

OK... I think you should try charging up the original battery for 6+ hours, then try the camera again.

Also - if the charger plugs directly into the camera - after that attempt fails (if it does fail), try powering On the camera again, while it is attached to the charger, just to make sure as to what is going on with the camera.

The charge is independent of the camera. The battery slides into a slot on the wall charging unit and then is transferred into the camera. So, after charging the original battery for six hours, putting it into the camera and it still doesn't work...what then?

Then your camera may be assumed to be 'broken', and to be in need either of fixing/servicing/repairing, or of being replaced.

Do you need further help with this case? e.g. recommendations to a servicing facility or facilities near your location? or anything else?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No that is good. What is the total charge for today's service? Do I deduct the Original $5 charge?
