Ok, do you have another lens? If so, try that and see if the error remains. If you only have one lens, remove it, clean the contacts with a soft cloth and some rubbing alcohol or Windex - on the lens and the camera body, and try again.
Let me know.
Hi there. I see you replied to my suggestion and then gave me a negative rating. I do not however know if you actually tried what I suggested which was to clean the contacts on the camera and lens.Did you do that? And do you have a second lens that you could try? Please let me know.
Ok. Would you be able to guesstimate how many shutter actuations on this camera (how many photos it has taken)?

So that's not a lot in the big scheme of things.
Can you manually focus the lens and have the camera take a shot?
I'm sorry, so in manual focus, the shutter fires but you see no image on the rear LCD after that?
You stated that you had reset the camera. I'm not sure how you did that so can you find the two buttons on top that have green dots, and with the camera switched on, press and hold both down together for 5 seconds. Then give it a try.
Ok. I'm not sure what it could be then. The ERR message is a 'catch all' message indicating that the camera is faulty. I think your only option is going to be to send it out somewhere. I can recommend a few places but you should understand that a used D80 body goes for about $100-$150.Where do you live? (nearest town/city).
Thanks very much. Please let me know if I can help you further.
And please if you can, up the rating since it does go on my permanent record here at Just Answer and I strive to keep a very high average having helped over 17,000 customers.Good luck.Steve
