I bought the Sony a7RII just under a year ago, mostly to use

Customer Question

I bought the Sony a7RII just under a year ago, mostly to use in silent mode as I work on motion picture and television sets. With Sony lenses, I found that too many of the images appeared "stretched" and distorted, even though I would shoot at an aperture of 200th/sec. or higher.
I was disappointed with the camera and ended up shelving it for months, thinking I'd eventually check it out. Now that my one year warranty is coming up I figure that NOW is the time to look into it.
I would welcome any help or solutions.
Thank you
Peter Iovino

Hi, I'm Pete. Welcome to JustAnswer! I'm reviewing your question now, and will post back with your reply ASAP.

Expert:  Pete replied 16 days ago.

Does the problem occur with several different lenses?

Are you using a tripod?

Customer: replied 16 days ago.
well, a monopod.
Customer: replied 14 days ago.
I answered, "Yes, I use multiple lenses and yes, I use a monopod". I have not heard any response in return but have received an e-mail with the comment, "Please rate my service", asking, "How did I do"?
Did I miss something? What gives?

Thanks for getting back to me. I was offline when you replied yesterday, sorry for the delay.

Could you attach some example photos so I can see what type of optical distortion you are getting?

I sent you pictures. Still no answer.
Expert:  Pete replied 12 days ago.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I have reviewed the pictures and I can see the distortion clearly.

This type of distortion is known as "Mustache distortion" due to its wavy effect, and it can often be seen on the wide end of zooms, with certain older lenses, and also when using large-range zooms.

Can you let me know the model numbers of some of the lenses you are using?

Customer: replied 11 days ago.
The zooms I use were bought the same time I bought the body just under a year ago. They are the Sony FE 24 - 70mm F4
ZA OSS, serial #8301855 and the Sony FE 70 - 200mm F4 G OSS, serial #1851834

My one year warranty is about to expire soon. Would you know where to send the lenses and/or body to Sony to have them checked?
Expert:  Pete replied 11 days ago.

Yes, those lenses should not be giving you this problem on this camera.

The problem is likely with the camera body itself.

You should send both the camera and the lenses you are using with it to the Authorized Sony Repair Depot - to arrange this, please use the following website:

My original plan was to contact Sony before the warranty expires but I somehow got linked into this ridiculous service that has already taken over a week and not really resolved anythiing.
Thanks anyway.

Sorry for any confusion, is there anything else I can help you with?

Are you happy with my service and the information I have provided?

Customer: replied 9 days ago.
No Pete,
After waiting over a week I think we both realize that it's obvious you cannot help me.
I am certainly not happy with the service and information you provided and especially not happy with the amount of time lost in providing all the run around.
Thanks anyway.
Expert:  Pete replied 9 days ago.

Ok, you did ask where to send the lenses and/or body to, and I gave you that information.

Please let me know what else you require from me?

Customer: replied 8 days ago.
Nothing. Thank you.
