My EOS Rebel T3 has a problem location the SD disk when

Customer Question

My EOS Rebel T3 has a problem location the SD disk when inserted. It will show there is no disk in the camera.
JA: What's the exact make and model of the camera? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: Cannon DS126291 EOS Rebel T3
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I have not tried anything, my sister gave me the camera because the pictures would hot save on the disk. I just got it and haven't done anything buy put the disk in to try it. It will save sometimes but not all the time.
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?

Hi, I’m Louie. Sorry you had to wait awhile but I’ll do my best to help.

To make sure I don't miss anything, please give me a minute to review your question.

Expert:  Louie replied 2 months ago.

Have you tried another SD card?

Or try the old SD card with another camera or even a memory card reader / computer?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I put 3 different cards in the camera. I read the card on my computer and 2 of the 10 pictures I took showed up. The card is good I have pictures saved on it from another camera.

Appreciate these additional information; very significant.

Since the SD card(s) can then be ruled out, the most likely suspect would then be the T3 itself or more particularly the finger/contacts based on "...will save sometimes but not all the time..."

Would you be comfortable attempting to check/clean these memory contacts of the camera through the card slot?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I had thought of that but was unsure what to use.
Expert:  Louie replied 2 months ago.

Can you try carefully cleaning these contacts?

Consider using a flattened foam swab lightly dipped in plastic safe / non-staining CRC 2-26, DeoxIT DN5 or LPS 03116 Contact Cleaner or equivalent. Allow sufficient air drying time.

In some instances, tweezers may be needed to cautiously re-align these fingers/contacts.

I will try that tomorrow and let you know then how it worked.

Yes please. Kindly ensure, camera is OFF and batteries removed.

And would look forward to an update.
