Customer Question

Hi i have a LG RC689D stuck on READ but there is no disc in the machine and can not get it to do anything else. Any ideas?
JA: What's the make/model of your camera? How old is it?
Customer: Sorry it is a LG DVD/VCR 4 or 5 years old.
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I am not aware of any issue before this happened and I have tried the reset of hold to on/off button in for 5 seconds but so far no good.
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: i can not get the device to play videos or do any other function.

Hi, I’m Louie. Sorry you had to wait awhile but I’ll do my best to help.

Initially, have you tried unplugging the RC689D for an extended period of time ? ....and then plugging back in but into another outlet ?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I have had it unplugged for two week but that has not helped.

Then it would be an internal hardware issue.

Are you then considering a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair approach? If yes, do you have access to and familiar with a multi-meter (and even perhaps a soldering iron)?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No, that is beyond me. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to find out it can't be fixed.

I think I will end our chat at this stage, thank you for your help.

I understand.

I realize that the above information may perhaps be not what was expected. Unfortunately, there is no quick-n-easy fix and neither is there a workaround; sorry for having to be the bearer of bad news.

Still and if of interest, consider manually cleaning the lens. This would serve as both an attempt of a fix and as a test. If the cleaning is not corrective, then there are other faults requiring major repairs. Please click HERE to serve as general reference.
