This is same problem as last year. I cannot connect my LG

Customer Question

This is same problem as last year. I cannot connect my LG smart TV with wi fi. Have disconnected modem and tv and retried and have Connected apple ipad with wi fi. LG have basically left me without help. Problem caused by ABN provided by government and supplied thru TPG same company but different settings (they don't know how to solve this either). You fixed it last year and it was GREAT! Thanks.

Hi, I'm Nathan.
Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with this but I'll do my best to help you.

Hello Shirley,

Often this is just a need for the tv to have a software update which it can't always do over wifi.
Can you please connect a wired ethernet connection from the tv directly to the modem/router,

then go into the tv settings menu under General, then About, and check for software updates and let me know if that helps?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
sorry had to find a longer cord. Software automatic and up tp date
Expert:  Nathan replied 3 months ago.

No problem at all, take your time.

So no new updates found?
if you try to connect to apps now, will they work?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
one thing LG said software might have to be updated manually. How do I connect to apps?
Expert:  Nathan replied 3 months ago.

Yes that is a possibility as well. Open any app you'd normally use (netflix, catchup, etc).

I'd need to know the current software version you see in the tv settings menu (about), please.

is this it - 2.2.0-123(beehive-biscayne)
Customer: replied 3 months ago.

got you tube
Expert:  Nathan replied 3 months ago.

That is an old version, you can get an update file here: http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-40LF6300#manuals

do double check your model number first though as I was going off your question from last year and want to be sure it is a match.

scroll down to software update on that linked page and you'll see the update file and instructions.

You will download to computer, copy to usb memory stick, then install to the tv.

Let me know how that works out for you.
Thanks,

Nathan

Nathan, your link went to LF6300- UA or UB my model is LF6300-TA Could it be the same or how to get correct one. Thanks
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Sorry, a bit dim - I downloaded it - now for the rest.
Expert:  Nathan replied 3 months ago.

Sorry I missed you last night Shirley, I'm in the US on a much different time zone.

Were you able to install the manual update?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
sorry, Nathan, things have not gone well. First of all I got disconnected several times with downloads and when I got them they disappeared I think into apple store, so never into memory stick. My son-in-law is coming over tomorrow to see if he can help. So that's where I am at the moment; still trying.
Expert:  Nathan replied 3 months ago.

Oh if you are doing this on a mac it probably won't work, try it from a pc.

You need to actually unzip the downloaded file and then transfer the contents (not the zip itself) to the tv.

Let me know if you get stuck or put him online with me if you prefer, and I'll guide you through.

Thanks,

Nathan

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Sorry no PCs here only macs
Expert:  Nathan replied 3 months ago.

You may be able to use a mac, but you do need a zip extraction program to access the file.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Hi, Nathan. My son-in-law transferred the upgrade to a memory stick and transferred it to the TV but the tv would not do the install. I will call LG and see if the can suggest anything. He used zip extraction but so far it seems LG is geared to a cp.
Expert:  Nathan replied 3 months ago.

Hello Shirley, nice to hear from you again.

It does indeed need to be extracted, but you are still copying just the contents of the update file (not the zip itself), though I've honestly never seen this work well on a mac, only a pc. Keep me posted, when you have a chance, please.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Just to let you know we are about to throw out the LG TV. I contacted LG again and two things - 1. They told me after a long wait to try again (my son-in-law tried 3 or 4 times and usb stick would not download on the TV) 2. They said the upgrade was for cp or apple mac???
Expert:  Nathan replied 3 months ago.

Can you give me a link to the page you are downloading from so I can have a look?
Also can you confirm the complete model number of the tv for me (You had only sent the series part before, missing the first 2 digits)

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
complete model #40LF6300-TA. Downloaded from WWW/LG.com/US/support.product/40LF6300#manuals Which you gave me and my son-in-law checked it. Software version 04.05.25
Expert:  Nathan replied 3 months ago.

So it is the .epk file that you are putting on the memory stick?
