Customer Question

I'm a brand new user of the canon Vivian r30 -- I plugged in an external mic and recorded a few seconds of video -- I then removed the mic & played back the video but there was no sound -- any suggestions?

Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

When a new camera is first being used, the external microphone jack should be workable, but there are a few things to check first, before you can be sure good results and good audio recordings, will be obtained:

- is the Volume setting on the Canon camera set correctly? if at minimum, it may be impossible to record sound.

- is the microphone the right type? some types of microphones will not work with Canon cameras. I believe (this is offhand, and I have not looked up your specific model's specifications for microphone use, yet...) that condenser microphones are unsuitable, generally speaking.

What type of microphone have you tried using?

Let me know, and I will advise you further, as needed. (And if you need to know how to set the Volume, let me know and I will explain that also.)
