Hello and welcome to JustAnswer, I look forward to assisting you today. First, remove the card and battery then press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Reinsert both the card and battery and try again. Let me know what happens please.

Hello Dan
I still get the system error message
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

My apologies for the delay. This error is normally associated with the memory card. Can you access the camera menu and try to format the card?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Hello
I can't access anything. When I turn on the power it just shows system error
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

Do you still have the old card or possibly another card you can try?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
I have the old card. I tried doing all the previous suggestions and still get the same result. (System error)
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

Still the same error code?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
It is System Error and has 1 with a 0 bellow the # *****
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

Have you checked to make sure the memory card is not write protected?

Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

You can also see the same error if the camera's internal memory is full.

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
I'm not sure how to check to see if memory card is write protected.
How would I check or empty the internal memory?
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

Remove the memory card first then see if you still have the error. Make sure the camera is always off before inserting or removing the card.

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
I get the same error with the memory card removed
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

Can you bring up the camera menu?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
No, I tried with the card out and tried with the card in. It just shows the system error message instantly
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

Is there any chance you might have inserted the SD card the wrong way?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
It can only be installed 1 way,
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

Correct, but sometimes it can accidentally be inserted wrong and damage the camera. I just wanted to make sure you hadn't done that. When you turn the camera on, does the lens extend?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
No, I did not try and insert it wrong.
and no the lens does not extend when turned on.
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

When you turn the camera on, gently try to move the lens barrel back and forth while lightly pulling it out.

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
I tried this and could not get the barrel to move
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

Okay. Well I am out of ideas for you. There is a possibility of a circuit failure within the camera that would need factory service to correct. How old is the camera?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
The camera I believe is 9 years old. I will take it to an approved Nikon service shop.
Thanks for all your efforts, I appreciate it.
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

You're welcome. Keep in mind due to the age, it may not be worth fixing?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
OK thanks
Expert:  Dan replied 5 months ago.

My pleasure!
