Hello. Thank you for coming to JustAnswer.

Sorry for the wait. My name is Michael. I will be helping you with your question today.

Please verify that you have downloaded the latest firmware and distortion data from the official page, which I am providing a link to below. This will be the latest 1.10 firmware.

If the firmware update fails with this, please specify the exact steps you took and at what point it failed and what indicated failure.

Michael, I have already downloaded both links and put them on my media card, CF 128G. I can see them on my card but when I insert the card back in my camera it is not picking up the update. I've tried to download direct from the PC to the camera with the connection but I get a message saying that link is incompatable. I have also tried to load with the secondary card but getting the same result.

That's not really how it works - you have to download the files and then run them on your computer to create the update file. Then you would copy that file to the card. Once you do that, you must go to the firmware update on the camera for it to read it in. Here are the specific instructions for the update.

  1. Create a new folder with an appropriate name on your computer's hard drive.

  2. Download the Windows (.EXE) or Mac (.DMG) file from the links at the bottom of this page to the folder created in step 1.

  3. Run the downloaded file to create a folder called D800Update which contains the firmware D800_0110.bin file.

  4. Use a card reader or similar device to copy the D800_0110.bin file to the root directory of a memory card formatted in the camera.

  5. Insert the memory card into the camera's primary memory card slot and turn on the camera.

  6. Select Firmware version from the camera's setup menu and follow the instructions displayed to upgrade the firmware.

  7. After the upgrade is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.

Thanks for your reply Michael, I have tried all of the suggestions and when I get to open file I get the attached message. I have checked all of my Adobe settings and everything is OK, I have approved the file in the Adobe trust and still no action. I have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat DC installed. Thank you.

Thank you. That's good information - it means adobe is trying to open the file, but it shouldn't be. It sounds like you have already created the bin file that you need. So just go to this step:

  1. Use a card reader or similar device to copy the D800_0110.bin file to the root directory of a memory card formatted in the camera.

  2. Insert the memory card into the camera's primary memory card slot and turn on the camera.

  3. Select Firmware version from the camera's setup menu and follow the instructions displayed to upgrade the firmware.

  4. After the upgrade is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.

Thanks Michael for your time, I have tried that and still no joy. I have contacted Nikon and will visit one of their service centres here in Sydney for them to do the update.

Unfortunately Michael, it didn't solve my problem. I appreciate the assistance that you gave and therefore cannot rate you using the tabs provided. If there was a tab labelled: Provided assistance but no result, I would gladly rate that as excellent.
Expert:  Michael Hannigan replied 8 months ago.

I don't have control over the final result. I can only provide you with the correct information.

If you do not wish me to be paid for my personal time that I spent helping you with your question, then you may opt not to rate. If you do not rate, I will not be paid for my personal time that I spent answering your question. It doesn't result in a refund - JustAnswer will still be paid, but if you wish to withhold payment from me, that is your option.
