Just purchased new Fujifilm S1. Following set up directions. Battery charged etc. Pg. 4 of basic manual, step 1.1: Choose a language. English highlighted automatically. Step 1.2: Press MENU/OK. I press menu, I press OK, I press quickly, I press and hold. Nothing happens and I can't proceed to step 2: Set date and time. Frustrating. Please advise.

It sounds to me as if the MENU/OK button is defective from the store. Who knows what else is wrong with this camera? I suggest packing it up in original packing (if possible) and taking it back to the store you got it from for a refund or an exchange for another, working, camera. ASAP, hopefully before the return/exchange period runs out.

If it has run out, then contact FujiFilm USA, and put in a defective-within-warranty claim on the camera for within-warranty servicing for free.
