Hi,

If you have not already done so, remove the memory card and try powering the camera on. Please let me know the result.

Try the Sony Reset at the link below

Let me know if this works. If unsuccessful, a lens error may be the cause. Is there any lens movement at all, when you power up, even very slight?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Reset did not worked either and there is no movement what so ever

Connect the camera to a computer using the USB cable. If it allows you to get past the point where it has been freezing, then the lack of motion of the lens is the likely cause. Stop here and let me know and we can proceed in that direction.

If it still freezes after the setup, the internal memory is corrupted or damaged and maqin circuit board work is necessary to repair it. The factory authorized repair service at the link below is to my knowledge the best option for this type of repair. You can also get an online estimate for the repair. (Also see note)

Considering the age and present value of this camera, paying the cost of having it repaired , approximately $97 - $110 really depends on how attached to the camera you are. The standard "rule of thumb" is if the repair cost is greater than 50% of the value of the camera, it is not worth it. A good used or refurbished DSC HX5V can be purchased for as low as $22 - $50 and I've seen a brand new one for around $92.

Please keep in mind that my diagnosis & solutions provided are directly dependent on the accuracy of your description of the problem. As with any "do it yourself" fixes, success is a "team effort", since I can't see or touch the camera, and relies on the customer's manual dexterity and ability to follow the instructions well.

after connecting to USB it didn't allowed me to do nothing so i switched off the USB and now it is allowing me to run through the menu but still no movement from the lens
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
it seems that the frezzing is connected to the date and clock definitions because only when I try to leave this menu after put the correct hour and date it freezes the screen
Expert:  Russell A. replied 10 months ago.

If you can access the menu again go to:

Main Settings (the wrench & Hammer)

Select Initialize

Press OK

If it sequences properly, the process should reset the lens function.

when I do that it initializes and goes directly to the date and hour definition menu again...
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
freezes
Expert:  Russell A. replied 10 months ago.

Final procedure:

Access the menu again and go to:

Settings (the toolbox )

Select Internal Memory Tool

Select Format

Press OK

nothing :( everytime it freezes the screen after
Expert:  Russell A. replied 10 months ago.

The camera configuration operating system software, stored on the main board is corrupt, either from a failed component or static electricity. There are no user tools available to repair this problem. Professional repair or an inexpensive used replacement are the only options.
