Hi there and welcome

If you remove the battery and then try to slide it over, does it then slide over?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

ok, when you close it your making sure to slide it to the very right first so it is extended as far as possible, then push down and slide it to the left to clip in?

What happens when you do this?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
nothing - really will not slide left or right -
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
battery leaves little room for left or right movement

Ok, I want to make sure your using the right compartment for this, look at the section 1 Setting up your Camera here

The battery needs to be pushed down till it clips in then you slide the cover over.

You have tried now with the battery out as well? Just to rule out the battery as the issue.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Good batteries - will not move with battery removed
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
orange clip function has obviously failed mechanically - this isn't getting me toward resolving.
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

How do you mean it will not move? It will not open at all? Its jammed in one position?

Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

Or it will close but will not stay locked?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
only thing that opens and closes is the grey cover - it works - the clip is inside and slips over the only the right side of the battery - are you sure you're look at the right doc's or diagram??
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the exterior cover works fine - it the ORANGE CLIP inside
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

I showed you the document I am looking at which is for the M550 which is the model you indicated you had.

Use a bit of force as you cannot bend it when the battery is in, and push against it (use a paperclip) to try to get it to snap back and cover over the battery.

Let me know the results.

Im reviewing the pdf
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

ok.. let me know when you did my last instructions please

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
pdf does not show the orange lock - it is frozen and will not move. Grey cover works. I need to suspend this dialogue with no charges to my card. This issue is not being resolved.
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

I never said it shows the orange lock so not really sure what you mean with that....

But ok, you need to go here for your refund

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the orange lock holds the battery down so it makes firm contact, I can hold it down with a thumbnail, but you can use the camera holding it in the fashion.
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

ok, but as you have requested a refund, we cannot continue any further.

Thanks and all the best.
